They had a corporate ERP. They wanted flexibility. We didn't want to break what already worked.

The context

GRS Bearings is one of the most established industrial bearings distributors in the Dominican Republic. Accounting, inventory and purchasing have lived in SAP Business One for years — and nobody was going to touch that. What changed is that sales and service teams started hitting the ceiling: every new business need (a custom field, a per-zone report, a different approval flow) ran into SAP's rigidity.

The problem

In SAP B1, anything off the standard path requires a consulting project: scope, quote, weeks of wait, dollar cost. The sales team lost momentum because they didn't have a system that moved at their pace. To keep the business going, they were tracking information in parallel spreadsheets — exactly the problem SAP was supposed to solve.

How we approached it

The obvious move would have been to replace SAP. The smart move was NOT to. SAP does the accounting job well; the problem is what the business wants to add on top. We designed a two-layer architecture: SAP B1 as the system of accounting record (financial truth) + Odoo as the flexible system (CRM, service, custom fields, business reports). Connected by a bidirectional integration that keeps data in sync without fighting over ownership.

What we built

We built an Odoo module that talks to SAP B1's Service Layer. It authenticates via session cookie, auto-refreshes every 10 minutes, and handles session rotation without losing in-flight transactions. Syncs partners, products, stock and invoicing both ways, with configurable field mapping and per-operation logs. The result: what gets invoiced or moved on one side shows up on the other without manual typing.

The result

When the sales team needs a new field, a workflow or a report, the answer stops being 'wait for the next SAP project' and becomes 'we have it in Odoo this week'. SAP stays untouched as the accounting system; Odoo becomes the place where the business actually breathes. One dataset, two access doors, zero migration project.
